Breeding and Stud farms
At the heart of SOREC’s strategic priorities, horse breeding is the first link in the chain value, whose goal is to ensure the long-term survival of Moroccan horse bloodlines.
The mission of horse breeding focuses on the management and genetic improvement of horse breeds. This approach aims to produce horses of excellent quality while refining the breeds through the application of the latest advances in genetics and scientific research.
Competition and initiative
Breeding competitions are an annual highlight for the development and promotion of the Barb, Arab-Barb, and Purebred Arabian breeds in Morocco. Organized under the auspices of SOREC, these competitions are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the genetic quality of the national herd and support breeders throughout the Kingdom.
They provide a structured platform for:
Selecting and rewarding the best horses by breed, according to rigorous criteria
Evaluating the results of the genetic improvement program implemented by SOREC and assessing production
Strengthening regional dynamism through the organization of regional competitions
Networking among breeders and sharing best breeding practices
Each year, nearly 30 breeding competitions are organized nationwide, reflecting a constant commitment to the sustainability and promotion of the Moroccan equine sector.
Concours d'élevage dédiés aux éleveurs de chevaux Barbes et Arabes Barbe
In partnership with the Moroccan Association of Barb and Arab-Barb Horses (AMCBAB), SOREC organizes an annual series of regional, interregional, and national championship competitions exclusively dedicated to the Barb and Arab-Barb breeds.
The purpose of these competitions is to select the best horses of these breeds, thereby contributing to genetic improvement, as well as the enhancement and promotion of these iconic breeds, both nationally and internationally. The competitions evaluate various aspects, such as conformation, gaits, balance, and breed type, thus ensuring a high standard in horse breeding.
More than 4,000 Barb and Arabian horses participate in these events, representing approximately 2,000 breeders.

“Model and Allure” competition for breeders of show-quality Purebred Arabian horses
In partnership with the Royal Moroccan Association of Purebred Arabian Horse Breeders (ARMECPSA), SOREC organizes an annual series of regional and specialized competitions culminating in a national championship.
These competitions serve as qualifiers for the International Arabian Show Horse Competition, which takes place each year during the El Jadida Horse Show.
The goal of this series of Arabian show horse competitions is to support and encourage breeders and promote the breeding of Arabian show horses on a national and international scale.
These competitions are recognized by the European Conference of Arab Horse Organizations (ECAHO), with which they are affiliated.
More than 600 Arabian horses take part in these events, representing approximately 150 breeders.
