As a key source of funding for the entire sector, SOREC operates on a unique economic model. Since taking over horse racing activities in 2007, SOREC has become the exclusive operator of pari-mutuel betting on horse races. Its role is to ensure the integrity of the betting system while ensuring a fair and transparent redistribution of the profits.
RACES: A KEY DRIVER OF GROWTH FOR THE EQUINE SECTOR
Horse racing plays a crucial role in selecting the best horses, which are then bred to enhance the genetic quality of the herd. Beyond its role in breeding, it provides entertainment and excitement for the general public, strengthening the bond between Moroccans and horses. These events unite long-time fans, enthusiasts, professionals, and a growing number of newcomers.

SOREC’s expertise in horse racing management is widely recognized across the continent. It stands as one of the few African institutions to have achieved a critical goal for the sector’s sustainability: positioning horse racing as a key growth driver for the entire equine industry. Reaching this milestone required substantial efforts to professionalize the sector, aligning with top-quality standards in areas like regulation, anti-doping control, media coverage, new infrastructure, jockey training programs, and training centers.

Regulation
Horse Identity Control
Before each race, all horses undergo an identity and ownership check conducted by a qualified veterinarian. This rigorous procedure ensures that each participating horse is properly registered and compliant with the regulations, guaranteeing fair and transparent races.
Anti-Doping Control
Anti-doping checks are carried out after every race, including on the winning horses and up to five others randomly selected. These strict tests are vital to ensure fairness, ensuring that the horses’ performance is a result of their training and natural ability, free from any influence of prohibited substances.

Racing Stewards
The racing stewards play a key role in ensuring fair competition and the strict enforcement of the Racing Code. Acting as referees, they use the Racing Code and the Sanctions and Violations Guide to oversee and regulate the races, ensuring everything runs smoothly and according to the rules.
Established in January 1994, video monitoring provides detailed, real-time oversight of horse races. With a dedicated team of cameramen, operators, and audio technicians, the races are accurately captured. These recordings enable the stewards to review and judge each race with transparency, ensuring that all rules are upheld and decisions are based on clear visual evidence.
