Horse Racing

As a key source of funding for the entire sector, SOREC operates on a unique economic model. Since taking over horse racing activities in 2007, SOREC has become the exclusive operator of pari-mutuel betting on horse races. Its role is to ensure the integrity of the betting system while ensuring a fair and transparent redistribution of the profits.

Obtaining professional accreditation

To participate in the horse races organized by SOREC, obtaining a specific accreditation is required. This process is overseen by a dedicated panel of racing stewards who ensure that all necessary standards and criteria are met. The available accreditations include:

Owner Accreditation: This allows individuals or entities to enter horses under their own name, make race entries, and receive winnings from the horses’ performances.

Trainer Accreditation: This accreditation, whether public or private, authorizes trainers to prepare horses, whether owned by them or by third parties. It ensures that horses are properly prepared for races.

Jockey Accreditation: Jockeys must hold this accreditation to ride horses in competitions. It certifies their ability and ensures they meet safety and conduct regulations.

Horse Registration for Racing

Before entering a race, each horse must be registered with SOREC. This involves submitting the horse’s « Accompanying Document, » which is recorded in the official registers. The horse is then assigned a unique « SOREC Code, » which tracks its racing history and confirms its eligibility to participate in events.

Impact of Socio-Professionals

Breeders and owners are key to the success of horse racing. They bring crucial expertise to the organization and management of events, ensuring high-quality standards and continuous improvement in practices. Breeders focus on selecting and raising horses, which directly impacts the quality and competitiveness of the races. Their dedication ensures healthy, top-performing horses. Owners, on the other hand, invest in the horses, covering their preparation and participation costs. This financial support is essential for organizing events and attracting both spectators and sponsors. Through their collaboration with SOREC, these professionals help elevate the level of horse racing and boost Morocco’s standing as a premier destination for international equestrian competitions.
